Running a proofreading business...it is so much more than just proofreading and editing. As our business has expanded so has our experience and now we do other things as well. This has been unexpected but not unpleasant. Some of these new services are; content writing for websites, SEO, article writing and press releases.

We also wanted to make this website entertaining, so that you, and our other clients, will keep wanting to come back to see what's new. So we now have a hilarious weekly blog, written by Rebecca Robertson, on the contact page. We will eventually change the tab so that it says 'blogs', but at the moment the webmaster is away at university and has no time for his mother, oops, I mean his clients. What you write and how it is written is important...People will judge you and your business by what and how you write. If you want to be seen as a professional it is important that your written words don’t let you down. For your written work to be professional it needs to have correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and it needs to be written in plain English so that it can be understood without ambiguity.

Staying up to date with the English language...As a proofreader I attend workshops held by the Society of Editors and the Plain English Foundation to keep me up-to-date on the rules of our ever-changing language. So don’t feel as though you should be able to do it yourself, it’s far more complicated than that. And even the best speller will miss errors in their own work as people see what they expect to see, rather than what’s there.
